Price check

Is this a good price?

Compare any asking price with what the same car actually sold for on Autotrader UK, not just what other sellers are asking.

Common questions

How does the price check work?

Autotrender records every listing on Autotrader UK twice a day. When an advert disappears we treat it as sold at its final asking price. Your price is compared with those sold prices for the same make, model and registration year, with the closest-mileage sales weighted most. Prices below the 35th percentile of comparable sales are flagged as below market, above the 65th as above market.

What counts as a comparable sale?

Sales of the same make, model and registration year. If fewer than 15 have been recorded we widen to a year either side, then to all years, and say which was used. Where a mileage is given, the 30 sales nearest in mileage set the fair range.

Is the sold price the real transaction price?

It is the last advertised price before the car came off Autotrader. Buyers often negotiate a little below that, so treat it as a ceiling on what the car fetched. Listings removed within a day or two, and prices flagged as outliers, are excluded.

Which vehicles can I check?

Any make and model of car, van or motorbike tracked on Autotrender. Rare models may not have enough sales yet; the result will say so rather than guess.
